3 Things I Learned on My Christmas Vacation
Happy New Year! It's hard to believe we're now dating checks (who writes checks anymore?!?!?) with "2017".
Like a lot of you, I had a "use it or lose it" situation with my vacation time, so I had to use up my remaining 5 days before the end of the year. With the holidays and weekends, that meant I was away from the studio for 11 days -- the LONGEST I've ever been away from the radio in my almost 20-year-long career.
During my time off, I learned a few things....
- ThinkStock
ThinkStock 1"Too Much" Is a Very Real Thing
Sure, we all expect to overindulge a bit over the holidays. But when everyone you know (aside from family) gives you a bottle of liquor and/or sponge candy and/or other homemade treats, you find yourself going to those things as major food groups. Left out in plain sight, I'm literally trying to remind myself that peanut brittle and vodka are not part of the food pyramid.
Too much time off is to blame (for me). Idle hands = devil's workshop.

I don't mean works of art like Picasso or Michelangelo...I mean painting a simple cabinet door. I learned that I actually STINK at it. Visible brush strokes, drippy lines, and a total mess all over my floor (even though I used a drop cloth). Leaving this to the professionals next time. My perfectionist OCD doesn't allow these imperfections.

The grout in my shower has been bugging me since I bought the house almost 3 years ago...it wasn't awful, but it was discolored in areas, and I wanted it to be fresh and pretty. De-grouting (with an electric tool and TWO people) took 5 hours. Re-grouting (with pre-mixed grout and TWO people) took another 4. The clean-up was at least another hour. Leave this to the pro's. Unless you've got a day to dedicate, and aren't as OCD as I am.
