Soon a trip to the grocery store will allow you to pick up more than just lunch or dinner ingredients.

A proposed bill in New York State would allow grocery stores like Wegmans and Walmart to start selling wine as well as beer and seltzers.

Last year New York State Senator Liz Krueger and Assembly Member Pamela Hunter introduced two new bills in each of their respective houses to allow grocery stores to start selling wine.

Senate Bill 6786 and Assembly Bill 6989 would allow grocery stores to start selling wine. The current law in New York only allows licensed liquor stores to sell wine.

Last year when the bills were first introduced, you could see signs like this in Wegmans stores all across New York State.



Around 1900 permits would be issued to grocery stores across the state if lawmakers pass the bill.

These 12 Awesome Wine Trails Criss-Cross The Whole of Upstate New York

Over the last decade or more, the wine industry in Upstate New York has exploded. Today there are over 100 wineries across our region. Some of them are big, corporate wineries and vineyards. Others are smaller "mom-and-pop" wineries in out-of-the-way rural places. All are excellent.
