Here Is Why New Yorkers Think Friday The 13th Is Unlucky
This Friday is the dreaded "Friday The 13th" and many people in New York consider this day to be very unlucky.
But why do people think this?
Well, you would have to go way back in history to see how a couple of different thoughts merged together to make Friday the 13th an unlucky day.

First off, the 13 is considered unlucky in several different cultures.
In many cultures, the number 12 is considered a "Complete" number. Many different cultures also consider 12 a perfect number so when you get to 13, you throw things off-balance.
If 12 is perfect, then 13 would be considered imperfect. If 12 is lucky, then 13 would be unlucky.

So where does the Friday part of Friday the 13th come in?
For this, we have to go back to ancient Rome. One of the ways the Romans dealt with criminals was to crucify them.

Most months, this would happen on a Friday. If you remember from the Bible, Jesus was crucified on a Friday. So if you were to ask anyone from those ancient times, they would tell you that the day a lot of people were put to death would be unlucky.
So now you take those two thought processes and put them together. That makes for a very unlucky day.
