It should be no surprise that Southwest Airlines takes home the merit badge for Boarding. I don't mind be a piece of cattle as my friend says. The heard moves so much faster when you don't have to struggle with bags and strollers. According to an article in New York Times, the baggage fees and classes are to blame for the added time in boarding. Southwest, who touts BAGS FLY FREE is winning the game.  There are no assigned seats and you can sit where ever you want.

Traveling has definitely changed since the 70's. The boarding time has increased by as much as 15-25 minutes. That's an extra 25 minutes that you could be in the air instead of waiting for the 4"11 person to place their bags in an overhead bin.  Trying to get your luggage into an overfull bin can be a pain. Now that most airlines are charging for one bag, it gives a new meaning to precious cargo. I always ask who's purse or jacket is taking up space before I ask a flight attendant to remove it. Please keep this in mind and be courteous to others. If you are able to stow an article under your seat please do so.
