We Spring Forward on Sunday…But Why?
As we "lose" an hour of sleep by springing forward this Sunday (March 11th) at 2am do any of us know why?
It happens twice a year, we spring forward and fall back as the daylight savings time change happens almost everywhere across the country (We are looking at you Arizona), but why do we do it?
Our crack team of researchers (just Dave googling stuff) we found several reasons:
Wikipedia.org states that "Winston Churchill argued that it enlarges "the opportunities for the pursuit of health and happiness among the millions of people who live in this country"
Finally, Webexhibits.org best explains Daylight savings as "The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening"
The real reason we think...no one like to come home from work when it is dark out at 4pm! Let us enjoy the sunshine after work!
Although most cell phones switch times automatically, don't forget to "Spring Forward" the rest of your clocks (ie oven and coffee pots) before you head to bed Saturday night, or you might be late to church on Sunday morning!
