Tornadoes Possible In Western New York

With the elevated risk of severe weather, there is also a slight chance of possible tornadoes across parts of Western New York.

While the risk isn't high, it is not at 0%, so you will need to make sure you pay attention to the skies and weather alerts on the radio.


Confirmed Tornadoes This Year In New York State

While New York State is not known as a hotbed for tornado activity, there have already been two confirmed tornadoes that have touched down so far this year in New York State.

Officials with the National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed an EF-1 tornado did touch down in Great Valley, New York, on June 9th, while another tornado was confirmed by the National Weather Service in Burlington on June 11th in Beekmantown, New York.

Those two were the first confirmed tornadoes of 2025 in New York State.

2024 Record Year For Tornadoes In New York State

Here is hoping that this year is not a repeat of last year. 2024 was a record year for tornadoes in New York State. 32 confirmed tornadoes were reported in New York in 2024, which blew away the old record. A majority of the tornadoes in 2024 happened in the month of July.
