Major And Extreme Heat Risk For New York State
Summer is official here, and so is the summer weather in New York State. While we will get a break with the weather on the first day of summer, the heat is coming to the "Empire" State.
Major And Extreme Heat Risk For New York State
A massive heatwave is coming to New York State and will leave much of New York State dealing with heat indexes in the upper 90s and low 100s.
The hottest parts of New York on Monday, June 23rd, will be along the New York/Pennsylvania border and throughout Central New York.
Ways To Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
As we prepare for the extreme heat, there are some things you can do to make sure you are cool and safe.
1 - Stay Hydrated: If you need to be outdoors, make sure you have plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. You should drink water before you feel thirsty and try to avoid sugar, alcohol, and caffeine drinks as they can dehydrate you.
2 - Find Shade: If you are going to be outside for extended periods of time, make sure you can find shade and get out of the sun. Use sunshine when you are outside and wear long, loose-fitting clothing to protect yourself from the sun.
3 - Keep Your Home Cool: If possible, use AC or fans to keep your house cool. Keep the curtains in your home closed during the day to keep the sun and heat out, and try not to use the oven to cook. Try using a microwave or an air fryer when cooking.
