Worldwide Tesla Layoffs Will Impact Workers In Buffalo New York
Earlier this week Tesla announced they would be layoff around 10% of their workforce worldwide and that includes some workers in New York State.
Telsa owns and runs a Gigafactory in Hamburg and according to a filing with New York State, the company plans on laying off around 300 workers at that factory.

The Tesla factory was opened in 2017 with help from state financial aid and the company is under contract to employ a certain number of people.
As part of that deal, Telsa leases the facility for just $1 a year in exchange for keeping at least 1,460 jobs at the Buffalo facility. That deal is signed through 2027.

New York State Senator Sean Ryan who represents Western New York issued the following statement after news of the layoffs came out.
“I am deeply concerned about Tesla’s significant layoffs at its factory in South Buffalo. Tesla is contractually obligated to meet specific employment targets. While Tesla is still above its employment benchmark agreement with New York State at this time, New York State should be prepared to impose fines on the company if layoffs continue. I will continue to monitor this situation and will do my part to ensure Tesla is held to the commitment it has made to Buffalo.”
Some employees have already been sent an email from Tesla saying their job has been eliminated.
