As we brace for Hurricane Beryl to impact us here in New York, there are some surprising facts about the "Empire State" and hurricanes.

The good news is that Beryl will be downgraded to a Tropical Storm by the time it makes an impact on New York, but that isn't always the case.

Did you know that New York State is in the Top 10 when it comes to being impacted by hurricanes? New York was ranked 9th overall in America for hurricane storms between 1851 and 2018.

Since 2018, there have been 8 hurricanes that have impacted the weather across New York State.

The last hurricane to have an impact on New York State was last year when Hurricane Lee caused beach erosion along the Eastern part of Long Island. Hurricane Lee moved through the area on September 15 and 16, 2023.

The last Major Hurricane to impact New York was Hurricane Ida in 2021. That hurricane caused severe flooding in New York City along with a Flash Flood Emergency being issued for the first time in history in New York City.
