Yesterday was the final time this will happen this year in New York State.

Thursday, November 7th was the last time we were going to see a sunset after 5 pm in New York State in 2024.

With the time change this past Sunday and all the clocks "Falling Back" an hour for Daylight Savings time the sun will now be setting before 5 pm for the rest of 2024 and into 2025.

According to timeanddate.com, the sun will set in Buffalo, the city farthest west in New York State, at 4:58 pm today and it will continue to get earlier and earlier as we get towards the end of the year.

The next time we will see a sunset that takes place after 5 pm will be on January 10th, 2025.

Of course with the sunsetting much earlier over the next several weeks, officials are warning of increased deer/car accidents.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, there are over 65,000 deer/car accidents every year with most of them occurring between October and December.

Here are 5 tips to use to avoid deer/vehicle accidents according to New York State's Department of Transportation.

1. If possible avoid driving around dawn or dusk. This is peak time for deer to be roaming and there is a chance there are more deer on the road.

2. At night, you should reduce your speed and use your high beams when possible while on the road.

3. Deers often travel in groups so if you see one deer, chances are there are more deer nearby. Use caution when driving past a deer near the side of the road.

4. Slow down when passing a deer. Deer tend to make quick movements and the deer could dart into the part of your vehicle.
