As Western New York braces for another massive winter lake effort snowstorm this week, could it end up being a record-breaking storm?

Several different models are showing snow amounts ranging from 3 inches to over 48 inches all over Western New York between Thursday and Sunday evening.
So if we are expecting to measure the snow using a yardstick, could we have a chance set a record for the snowiest day in Buffalo history?
According to currentresults.com, the snowiest day in Buffalo, New York history came back in the mid-1990s.
Since 1940, the record for snowfall has been captured at the Buffalo Niagara Internation Airport in Cheektowaga, New York. Since 1940, there have been plenty of snow has fallen in Western New York. From 4.2 inches on Christmas Eve in 1980 to 16.1 inches in 1949, it has been all recorded and logged for historical purposes.
So when was the day in Buffalo's history that brought the most snow to the Queen City?
That date was December 10th, 1995. On that day, within those 24 hours, 33.9 inches of snow fell at the Buffalo Niagara International airport. Yes, almost three feet of snow in just one day.
Looking at the models, it doesn't look like we are going to see 33 inches in one day, which I think we can all agree is a great thing. If you don't remember this massive amount of snow, just take what we get over the next several days and think about getting that all in one 24-hour period.
That is A LOT of snow.
