The morning commute for thousands of Western New Yorkers will look different.

Due to the winter weather, Route 5 from Rt 179 to Church Street Downtown is closed in both directions and that includes the Skyway.

That strip of road is located right along the shore of Lake Erie and with more lake-effect snow expected this morning and into the afternoon, road conditions won't allow officials to reopen the roadway.

Road Salt is not effective in temperatures under 15 degrees, with the high of only 12 today, roads will remain snow-packed and slippery. if you have to be out and about make sure you use caution.

All of Erie County and most of Western New York remain under a travel advisory this morning. That means you can drive but are encouraged to stay off the roads if you can.

All driving bans have been lifted in the area.

As for the weather, we have another cold snowy day on tap today. A band of lake effect snow is expected to impact the Southtowns and Southern Tier with another inch or two of snow. Temperatures start off in the single digits with a high today of around 12 degrees.
