
DANGER: Poor Air Quality Expected Across New York State
Another round of haze from Canadian wildfires will hang in the sky over much of New York State today.
That smoke has caused health officials in New York State to issue air quality alerts for all of New York State. Most of the state is under an "Unhealthy" alert for today.
Most of the state will have a fine particle index over 100, which will put those regions into the "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups"
That means if you or someone you know has respiratory issues, you should limit your time outdoors.

Here are some things you can do to be safe when the air quality is poor, according to the EPA:
Keep windows and doors closed.
Use fans and air conditioning to stay cool.
Reduce the smoke that enters your home.
Use a portable air cleaner or high-efficiency filter to remove fine particles from the air.
How Many Acres Of Canadian Forrest Have Burned This Year?
So far in 2025, over 16 million acres of forest have burned during this latest round of wildfires. This is the second Canadian fire season on record, just behind 2023.
The main reason for the fires this summer is the extreme heat and dry conditions across the region.
