Can New Yorkers Legally Do This In Canada?
One of the best parts about living in New York is that we share an open border with our neighbors to the north, Canada.

Chances are at some point you have made the trip over the border and hung out for a day or two in Canada. While you were there you might have enjoyed some amazing Canadian things like milk in a bag or ketchup chips.

But what if you have the itch to win, can you as a New Yorker legally play the lottery in Canada?
The answer is simple. Yes, you can!
Canada's lottery does not have any rules or regulations about citizenship, which means that if you are an American you can buy and win the Canadian Lottery.
There are some different rules when it comes to collecting your money. According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, all the winnings will be paid out in Canadian money.
You also don't have to pay any Canadian taxes on your winnings, but you will have to abide by the tax laws of both the United States and New York State when it comes to declaring international income/winnings.
If you do get a winning lottery ticket from Canada there are two ways you can collect your winnings.
If you won $10,000 or more you have to claim your prize in person at the OLG center in Toronto. If you win less than $10,000, you can claim your prize in person or you can have the OLG mail your winning amount in a form of a check.
You will need to provide a Canadian address as well as your American address in order to receive a check. If you don't have a Canadian address, you will have to claim your prize in person.
So if you looking to boost your chances of winning the lottery why not take a chance on playing a game or two over the border?
