New Law Will Affect Thousands Of Drivers In New York
This week more than 200 new laws went into effect in New York State.

One of those laws will affect new drives all across the state.
As of January 1st, 2023, any person trying to get a driver's license in New York State will now have to learn about pedestrian and bicycle safety.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed the bill into law in June of 2022 citing that the law would make the street safe for everyone.

"requires new drivers to learn about pedestrian and bicyclist safety awareness as a component of the pre-licensing exam and as a prerequisite for obtaining a license to operate a motor vehicle."
The new upgrade safety guidelines will also be added to the DMV's pre-licensing course and instruction handbook and will now be part of the written driver's test.
The Governor said that the new law will help everyone on the road.
"This law will help prevent crashes and save lives, and I thank my partners in the Assembly and Senate for passing this legislation to make our streets safer."
Anyone looking to get a driver's license in 2023 or who has to retake the driver's test will be affected by the new guidelines.
