There were also 19 4th-place winning tickets sold in New York. Those tickets matched four out of five numbers but missed out on the Mega Ball. Two of those tickets also had the Megaplier, which doubled the prize to $1000.

Big changes start today with the Mega Millions. As of April 5th, the cost of a Mega Millions ticket has increased from $2 per ticket or $3 per ticket with the Megaplier to $5 per ticket. The increase in ticket price will result in several things happening.

First off, now every Mega Millions ticket will come with the Megaplier. That means that every prize amount you win could be increased by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times the amount. The increase in ticket price will also lead to bigger jackpots.

The starting jackpot with the new version of Mega Millions will now be $50 million dollars which is more than double what the old starting jackpot of $20 million dollars.

The odds of winning a prize will also increase slightly from 1 in 24 to 1 in 23. Also, the average jackpot payout will more than double from $400 million dollars to $850 million dollars.
