Karen’s Best Candy Cane Cookie
Karen Gielter
I made these as a little girl with Mom and now make them for my grandchildren. They also fly out to California with me for my grandson.
Karen's "Best Candy Cane Cookie"
1 cup softened butter
1 cup sifted confectioner's sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. pure almond extract
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
Cream all ingredients together well, and add the following gradually:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Divide in half, and mix in 1 tsp. red food coloring carefully with a fork. Chill a couple of hours or overnight. Take ball of white / red dough, and roll each section to form candy cane.
Bake at 375 degrees for 9-11 minutes, then sprinkle immediately with sugar and crushed candy canes.
These have a very pretty presentation on a plate and are loved by the young and old.
