Bills Pick Up Former Commanders Safety Darnell Savage
As the hometown Buffalo Bills get ready for a late-season push towards the playoffs, they are making roster moves in the league to try and bolster the defense. Injuries have really hurt the team lately, with several players out altogether or on the mend and only available for limited production.
To help improve the team's performance on defense, they picked up another defensive back to help give the defense an extra boost.
That's exactly what should happen now that a former first-round pick at Safety is joining the team this week.
Bills Pick Up Former Commanders Safety Darnell Savage
Just a day after more controversy is emerging about the last pickup by the team, the Bills announce they have acquired Darnell Savage Jr. from the Washington Commanders.
Savage, who was drafted 21st overall in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, had requested to be released from Washington.
Over his career, he spent this year with the Commanders after spending last year in Jacksonville, and the previous five years with the Pack. He has 10 career interceptions and has the skill to play both free safety and slot corner.

It's expected that Savage will be able to acclimate to the Bills' defensive scheme pretty quickly, as he's already familiar with a couple of members of the coaching staff.
Assistant Coach Jason Rebrovich spent time coaching Savage when they both were in Green Bay in 2022 and '23. That's in addition to the time that Senior Defensive Assistant Ryan Nielsen had with Savage while both players were with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2024 season.
With the loss of Je'Marcus Ingram and Darius Slay refusing to play, this move should help the defense when Cincinnati comes to Buffalo in week fourteen.
