With the Buffalo Bills playoff hopes looking bleak, many fans and pundits around the NFL believe head coach Sean McDermott should be fired. There are still 5 games to go and if they win them all it's likely they will make the playoffs with an over 90% chance. However, their current playoff odds sit at only 15%, and losing any game moving forward drastically hurts their chances. Plus, they do not have an easy schedule with Kansas City and Dallas on the horizon.

It's the NFL though and anything, truly, is possible. Including the Bills going on a run and winning it all. It's happened before (not the Bills, unfortunately) and it will happen again.

If that doesn't happen, though, it's likely the Bills move on from Sean McDermott based on how the league generally operates. A coach fails to meet expectations and teams fire them. It's not a guarantee, and to be clear we aren't rooting for it or anything, really.

What we are here to do is look at the possibilities should the Bills move on from McDermott. We've already examined Frank Reich as the next Bills head coach, CLICK HERE to read that. Today we look at a much more controversial idea, especially for Bills Mafia.

Bill Belichick

The name makes many Bills fans gag, shiver, or get violently angry. This is a coach who dominated the Bills for 2 decades winning 7 Super Bowls along the way. He was caught cheating to win, multiple times. His Quarterback during that stretch was Tom Brady: another name that irks Bills fans to the core. He's also a massive grump during press conferences who often makes awkward situations.

That's the negative.

On the positive, let's not diminish the reality. This is perhaps the greatest coach in NFL history. Certainly, he is the most successful with, again, 7 Super Bowls. Yes, he had Tom Brady, but Brady wasn't exactly a highly touted QB coming out of college, thus the reason he was a 6th Round Draft Pick by the Patriots and Belichick. Under Bill, he became the greatest quarterback of all time and of course, Belichick gets credit for that. He's a defensive mastermind who tends to get the most out of his players. At least, historically he has. Lately not so much.

Bill Belichick Lately

The Patriots have not done well since Brady left. His team, especially offensively, has struggled. He has made poor draft choices and free-agent signings as the dual coach and GM of the team. He has also made poor assistant coaching choices. New England isn't what it once was, and Belichick is no longer considered a genius.

Still, most around the NFL consider him in high regard, and would probably see him moving to another team with a good quarterback as a massive addition to an organization. An organization like the Buffalo Bills.

Bill Belichick and the Buffalo Bills?

Let's be abundantly clear: this is an article based on opinion, speculation, and "what if." There are ZERO rumors of the Bills pursuing Belichick, and the Bills have NOT fired Sean McDermott. It's not a guarantee they will fire McDermott. So, Bills fans, before you," hang up and listen," understand we're just looking at the what-ifs and, more importantly, if you even want it which we will get to shortly.

Would Bill make sense for the Bills? Maybe if he:

1. Gets fired by the Patriots, which there are rumblings but nothing concrete. It would be tough for the Pats to fire their all-time coach.

2. Doesn't want to retire and that's a big if.

3. He just wants to coach and not GM because the Bills likely will not be moving on from current GM Brandon Beane, even if they fire McDermott.

4. The actually do fire Beane and give Belichick total control.

In reality, it's probably not happening. Really the only reason it would, pending McDermott's firing, is if Belichick wants to keep coaching and sees an easy roach with Josh Allen and the Bills defense, which he might. The team does not lack talent but seems to beat themselves with a lack of execution, penalties, and bad coaching decisions. Belichick is known to be authoritarian in his approach and that might be what they need.

Still, it's unlikely he will become the next coach of the Bills. Regardless, so Bills fans want him?

Do Buffalo Bills Fans Want Bill Belichick As Their Next Coach?

No.

No, they do not.

We put the question up on Facebook on 2 of our radio stations: 92.9 WBUF and 106.5 WYRK which regularly like to talk Bills football with us. Thye OVERWHELMINGLY said NO. As seen below:

Here's WBUF:

Here's WYRK:

Some people of course said yes, but the overwhelming majority said absolutely not.

We doubt Bill Belicheat, er, Belichick will lose any sleep over it.
