Is Buffalo The Best City To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

We did it again Buffalo.  We've claimed to be one of the best cities to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and now it's been confirmed.  We do St. Patrick's Day right!

St. Patrick's Day is a huge party with ethnic roots and once again, Buffalo was listed in the top 10 when ranking cities on how they celebrate it.

Where did Buffalo land on the list of the top cities to celebrate St. Patrick's day?

WalletHub once again did a study on over 200 big cities in the United States to find the best and worst cities to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We even moved up this year.  Last year we were named the 9th best city to celebrate St. Patrick's day.  This year we moved up to #8.  The cities that came in ahead of Buffalo for the 2024 study were Boston, Chicago (Kind of hard to argue with a city that turns a major river green), Savannah (GA), Reno, Pittsburgh, New York, and Worcester.

What were the contributing factors?

The study looked at 15 contributing factors that included everything from how many  Irish pubs and restaurants per capita to the lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day to the weather forecast.  They also looked at how many Irish traditions were observed, how much it would cost to celebrate there, and more.

What does Buffalo do right on St. Patrick's Day?

Buffalo did really well with the "Irish traditions that were observed" category.  They were 6th in the country there.

Buffalo's Weather For St. Patrick's Day Was An Issue This Year

While we moved up over all in the rankings, this year we moved way back when it comes to weather on St. Patrick's Day.  Last year, we were 84th in the country.  This year, out of 200 cities, we came in 155th.

Why should someone come to Buffalo to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

It's a great city.  First and foremost, Buffalo loves tradition and loves to celebrate it every chance they get.  From the food to the green beer to one of the biggest parades for St. Patrick's Day (heck, we have two of them!), Buffalo just does it right.
