Protests Lead To Cancellation Of Naked Bike Ride In Buffalo

After what seemed like an uproar of negative reaction on the internets, a bicycle-based protest that has been happening in Buffalo for more than 10 years, and around the world for a couple of decades, is snipping thier plans to ride this later this summer.

The 11th annual World Naked Bike Ride Buffalo, which was set to happen on August 1st this year, is now off, and representatives of the protest are calling for it to end as they say they have been subjected to threats of violence and even death if they ride naked around Buffalo.

Originally starting in 2004, the World Naked Bike Ride has ridden across cities around the world, with people riding bikes naked around various towns and cities as a form of protest against climate change, car culture, and the expansion of greenhouse gases around the world.

We ride against car culture and oil dependency, which drive the suffering and subjugation of people around the world. We ride for an end to the wars, genocides, and colonization that oil dependency fuels.

August 1, 2026 would've marked the 11th year the ride would appear in Buffalo, but after thousands of negative comments and social media shares, the ride is no more.

Our goal with this event was to exercise our right to protest while bringing awareness to issues that plague every single individual on this planet. While we received a lot of support, enough people threatened to actively seek us out to throw projectiles, hit us with cars, and use other deadly weapons, that we felt it was best to cancel the ride for this year.

While protesting for and/or against a topic is key to being a good American, threatening bodily harm and even violence is a bridge too far for lots of folks. For many years, Buffalo has been a key place of tolerance and support of those looking to exercise their constitutional rights, but lately it seems like the people of Western New York are working on dishonoring the concept that this is the City of Good Neighbors.
