Black History Month Art Exhibit From The Buffalo Urban League

As we roll through the month of February, Buffalo and Western New York have been having quite a time celebrating Black History Month.

Just like other cultural celebrations like St. Patrick's Day and Dingus Day, people of all creeds and ethnicities have been gathering together all over the 716 to celebrate, honor, and learn about the impact that Blacks have had in America.

It's easy to forget that Black History IS American History, and Buffalo is a significant intersection among all facets of American history. Whether you look at Buffalo's first permanent resident to Buffalo being an essential stop along the Underground Railroad, from the creation of the NAACP to countless other important figures in the development and prosperity of America, Buffalo's contribution to all that America is should not be discounted.

If you're looking for ways to interact with Black History Month in the 716, there are all sorts of events happening all over Western New York for you to learn more about black history in the region. One such event is being presented by one of the oldest Civil Rights organizations in Buffalo and is giving you the opportunity to experience Black History through music and artmaking at a free event for all ages for all ages.

Black History on Canvas: A Celebration of Art and Culture

Since 1927, the Buffalo Urban League has been a staple in Western New York while assisting in building a better community for all.

In partnership with the Buffalo United Resiliency Center (BURC) and Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals, the groups are hosting a public art and cultural exhibition at the world-renowned Burchfield Penney Art Center on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024.

The exhibition, titled Black History on Canvas: A Celebration of Art and Culture, is set to run from 5:30p to 8p and will feature music by Jukeboxxx, soul food tastings courtesy of Manna at Northland, and various art pieces provided by Princessa's Studio and Art Gallery.
