Western New York Families Will Spend Less On Thanksgiving

The holiday season is underway, and time is going to fly by before you know it. Soon, you will be sitting at the dinner table with your family and friends for a Thanksgiving dinner, watching Thursday night football, drinking a beer, and breaking the wishbone with your grandma. 

Well, I guess that last one counts on the fact that you have a Thanksgiving turkey this year, and if you want to make sure you have all of your Thanksgiving foods at the dinner table, you may want to start planning now. 

Experts are encouraging you to start making shopping plans early for your Thanksgiving feast so you can keep up with your traditions from last year. 

And while some items have gone up in price since last year, a lot of the items are expected to be cheaper this year!

Average Prices For 2023 Thanksgiving Dinner

Items like ham and potatoes will cost more this year, up about 7% and 3% respectively, according to Good Morning America. Egg prices are back down by 28.8% from last year, and on average, eggs cost about $2.07 on average.

Turkey is expected to be less expensive this year than in previous years, with an average price of about $1.27 per pound, down 22% since the same time last year….  

One of the reasons that the price of turkey has dropped since last year is in part to “a decrease in avian flu that previously sent prices soaring,” which has allowed more turkeys to be produced.

Special Deals And Discounts For Family Thanksgiving

Target announced this week that it will be offering a Thanksgiving meal basket to feed four for under $25, including a turkey at less than $1 per pound, an assortment of sides and desserts for under $5.

There will also be a Thanksgiving basket from Walmart, which includes ingredients to make a meal for up to 10 people. It costs just over $70. 

Other retailers, including Aldi, have announced savings up to 50% on a list of 70 Thanksgiving items, including gravy, potatoes and pumpkin pies.

Spend Less By Shopping Early

If you want to maximize your dollar for Thanksgiving, try to shop early for foods that won't spoil and purchase the generic-name products instead of the name brand products.
