How to Get FREE Bags Still When You Fly Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines dropped huge news that is really going to shake up family vacations if you fly the popular airline.
They announced on Tuesday morning that the a new policy would be rolling out and that your checked bags would not be free anymore when you are flying Southwest. Here are the changes that Southwest said that they are going to be making:
- The first 2 checked bags will not be free anymore.
- The lowest base flight tier will be changing.
- No word on how much of an increase or decrease the flights will be.
As a family that travels a lot that was the best perk of flying a Southwest Airline. We have 2 kids who need a lot of stuff and having the free checked bags was a huge benefit. The benefit of having a 1 free checked car seat is still going to happen for every paid ticket. So if you have 4 seats on the plane, you would have up to 4 checked car seats (if you had that many to bring).
When are these changes going to start for Southwest Airlines?
The company announced that the plans to start the new changes will happen starting May 28.
We found a way that you STILL can get free checked bags on Southwest.
It is going to cost you in a different way, though. You will get FREE checked bags on Southwest if you either fly 20 flights a year with Southwest OR you get 35,000 points on your Southwest credit card, but they have to be total qualifying points. What does this mean? According to the Southwest website:
1,500 TQPs for every $5,000 in purchases on your Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card, Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card, Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card, or Rewards Performance Business Credit Card
