Today, there are people who have made entire careers out of video games. From video game design, direction, and audio, among countless other avenues; not to mention the influencers on Twitch making millions of dollars streaming their gameplay. There’s also several major universities across the U.S. offer degree programs and courses in video game design and development– see, Mom? We were doing our homework!

Even if you didn’t make a career out of it, there are still so many of us who still keep a PS3 or Xbox hooked up to the TV to destress after a long day. 

Some of our favorite vintage games that we played on Nintendo and Atari, along with modern-day games that we still play today, are members of the World Video Game Hall of Fame. Which ones made it into the class of 2024?

New World Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees For 2024

The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York is home to the World Video Game Hall of Fame, and has been inducting games into its esteemed halls since 2014.

Several games were nominated as finalists for this year’s hall of fame class, and the 2024 inductees were chosen by the HOF’s International Selection Advisory Committee.

To receive a nomination, an arcade, console, computer, handheld, or mobile games must meet the following criteria:

• Icon-status: The game is widely recognized, respected, and remembered
• Longevity: The toy is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed popularity over time
• Geographical Reach: The game meets the above criteria across international boundaries
•  Influence: The game has exerted significant influence on the design and development of other games, on other forms of entertainment, or on popular culture and society in general

This year’s class will join legendary past inductees like Pong, Wii Sports, Grand Theft Auto, and The Oregon Trail as members of the World Video Game Hall of Fame.
