Did You Know This Rail Biking Adventure Existed In Cattaraugus County?
I've lived in Western New York my whole life, and had no idea this existed. It's an opportunity to explore Cattaraugus County using old railroad tracks on a railbike.
Imagine taking an afternoon to explore a part of Western New York like you've never seen it before. You'd have a chance to get some exercise, hang out with friends, and see some beautiful scenery. That's what they're hoping you get from the Revolution Rail Co. adventure through Cattaraugus County.
Credit goes to WIVB for opening my eyes to this. I had no idea it was a thing until they pointed it out.
It just opened in October for a preview, then became permanent in May of 2026.
What is a rail bike?
If you've never been on a rail bike, you might be wondering what they are. Picture a pedal boat that you'd take out on a pond, but instead of it being on the water, it uses railroad tracks. Four wheels straddle the tracks, and they're propelled like any other bike that you pedal.
What does the adventure entail?
I'm sure you're wondering how long the trip is, and what you'll have to do. According to the description on their website, you'll be taking a trip that is about a 6-mile round trip. There are a few inclines and some gliding, but it's described as gentle.
You start at Rocketcup Coffee in Cattaraugus, then hop on your rail bike. You'll get to see the woods, the Cattaraugus Creek, and what they describe as "stunning" views of Zoar Valley.
"This tour is a perfect blend of gentle adventure, scenic beauty, and views—ideal for families, couples, and groups looking for a unique experience in nature." - Revrail.com
How much does it cost?
The cost for a double rail bike is $100, and a quad rail bike is $180.
