How Western New York Is Promoting Safe Fourth Of July Celebrations

Celebrations are about to begin all over Western New York. If you're planning to be part of them, make sure you plan how you're going to get home safely first.

It is the pinnacle of summertime celebrations. The Fourth of July is here. It's a time to celebrate our nation's independence, and we do it by wearing red, white, and blue, hanging out by a grill or a pool, and normally drinking some frosty cold beverages.

William Mattar is offering free rides home for the Fourth of July

He's the guy you know for the catchy rhymes in his ads. The big one, "Hurt in a car, call William Mattar," is the one that people know best. But this month, he's saying, "Don't get a DUI this Fourth of July," and in order to make sure you don't, he's offering free rides with digital Uber Ride Discount Vouchers.

The vouchers are for $20 towards a ride with Uber, but they're limited, and once they're gone, they're gone.

Drunk driving on the Fourth of July kills thousands every year

According to data from Traffic Safety Marketing, from 2019 to 2023, there were 2,653 traffic crash fatalities during the Fourth of July holiday period. 1,679 of those fatalities were the drivers themselves.
