Buffalo Man Arrested Selling Clothes On The Black Market
You've probably heard of clothes and other items being sold on the "Black market" for a long time. In most cases, there's no real secret to how these items make it onto the streets. There are some very clever people out there, like hackers, scammers, and thieves amongst any other crime you can think of. This particular crime right here is amazing to me. According to the United States Attorney's Office, a Buffalo man is headed to prison for defrauding TJ Maxx for over $150,000. So how much time will he spend in jail? right now, he is sentenced to a little over two years.
The scheme he ran was really not that elaborate in my opinion, which is why it is amazing to me that he was able to get away with it for so long. Raymond Stover participated in a scheme that ran from state to state, he would get stolen items from these stores and return them without the recipes, and get gift cards. There is always someone looking for a deal, so Raymond would sell the gift cards to people or pawn shops in exchange for cash. Now, he has pled guilty and he is being ordered to pay back over $160,000.00 in restitution and another $19,000.00 in investigation fees.
One example of a crime committed was when four shirts were stolen from a store in Niagara Falls, and then they were exchanged at a store in Williamsville for over $150.00. I know times are tough right now, but it seems like this plan has been working for some time, up until now.
