According to the latest data, New York State plays the most of any state for teachers. The average medium income for a teacher in New York State is around $84,000

The average pay for a first year teacher in New York State is around $42,000.

One of the reasons New York State pays the most is that it requires teachers to have a master's degree within 5 years of getting a teaching job.

New York State also requires teachers to have three years of teaching experience, one year of mentored teaching, and take 100 hours of professional learning every five years if they want to be certified as a professional teacher.

Most other states don't require teachers to have a Master's degree but do offer incentives to encourage them to do so.
