
Federal Gas Tax Holiday Is Coming To New York
It looks like President Biden has made up his mind and this afternoon will call on Congress to implement a national gas tax holiday.

On Monday the President stated that we would decide by this Friday on wheter to call for a National gas tax holiday.

Currently here in New York state, Governor Kathy Houchl instated a state gas tax holiday on June 1st and several counties in the state like Erie and Niagara counties also capped the amount of gas tax they collect.
According to a press release, President Biden will ask congress to pass the national gas tax holiday for 3 months. Currently, the federal tax on a gallon of unleaded gas is 18.4 cents while the tax on diesel is 24.4 cents.
On average with the suspension of the national gas tax, the average American driver would save around $50 per week on gas.
In New York, our gas tax holiday is in place through February 2023.
The national average price of a gallon of unleaded gas is $4.95 according to AAA. That is down around 6 cents from last week, but still around $1.90 more than what we were paying last year.
In New York State, the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas is around $4.99. That is down about 5 cents from last week. Last year the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in New York was $3.13.
Due to the county cap on taxes, Western New York has the cheapest gas in the state. On average the price for a gallon of gas is around $4.88.
