How Many Earthquakes Happened This Month In New York?
When you think of an Earthquake prone area you think of California right? Well, it seems that New York State is ripe for earthquakes as well.
While you might not feel all of them, there have been four earthquakes already this month that could be felt in New York.

The latest one was this past Thursday and was centered in Bridgewater, New Jersey but was shallow enough to be felt in parts of New York State.

Here is a look at all the earthquakes that could be felt in New York State so far this month according to the website www.volcanodiscovery.com
A 2.2 magnitude earthquake happened on March 14, at 03:00 pm in Hunterdon County, 7.2 mi northwest of Bridgewater, Somerset County, New Jersey
A 1.4 magnitude earthquake happened on March 10, at 09:28 am around 5.9 mi southeast of Massena, St. Lawrence County, New York
A 1.4 magnitude earthquake was felt on March 8, at 02:34 pm in Franklin County, New York.
A 1.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded on March 6, at 12:02 am about 30 miles north of Rome, Oneida County, New York.
So far this year there have been 18 earthquakes recorded in New York State. The good news most of them have been small and could not be felt above ground.
There has been one earthquake that registered a 3.6 on the Richter scale. That quake happened on February 1st and was centered in Canada along the New York border and could be felt in parts of New York.
That was the second 3.6 or greater magnitude earthquake felt in New York over the past year. The other happened in Cheektowaga, New York on February 6th, 2023, and registered a 3.8 on the Richter scale.
