New York Town Set To Receive Millions Of Dollars In Aid

One small town in New York received some big news.

New York State governor Kathy Hochul announced that the city of Dunkirk will receive $10 million dollars in state aid to help with the revitalization of the city.

The governor was in Western New York to announce the news that the city of Dunkirk would receive $10 million in funding through the Empire State Development Corporation to help revitalize the city.

During her press conference, the governor announced that the money will be used to improve all the amazing things Dunkirk has to offer.

“We have a beautiful marina here,” Hochul said in a press conference“We have great potential to make this a real destination for boaters and other tourists … but also to revitalize the downtown. We have beautiful buildings … that need to be refurbished.”

Dunkirk was the Western New York winner of the sixth round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

The money will be used to help Dunkirk maintain a high quality of life and attract businesses, jobs, and economic and housing diversity to the area.

As the winner of the sixth round of investment, Dunkirk now joins the cities of Jamestown, Olean, Lockport, Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, and Buffalo's Broadway-Fillmore Neighborhood, which each were Western New York's winners in the first five Downtown Revitalization Initiative rounds.

The DRI was first created back in 2016 to accelerate and expand the revitalization of downtowns and neighborhoods in all ten regions of the state and to serve as centers of activity and catalysts for investment.
