
Daycares in the US vs Other Countries
About a week ago this video started circulating via Facebook:
Many commenters were saying what a shame it was that "this would never happen at a daycare in the U.S." And (disappointingly) I agree. The above video comes from a daycare center in New Zealand. It's been a few years since I've had a kiddo in daycare, but I remember all the restrictions and permission slips -- and I'm not knocking it -- I totally get it, and understand why all those restrictions are necessary. I don't even want to imagine what kind of insurance daycare centers need to carry!
All that said, in the U.S. we do seem to overcomplicate some things. I had a friend who, years ago, had her child come back from daycare *super* sunburned -- because the daycare center was literally not allowed to apply sunscreen to her child (because it was considered a medication).
Sometimes I wish we could just let our kids slide into muddy puddles on rainy days and not worry about it.
