Dave Fields Is Ready to Celebrate National Sponge Candy Day with Platter’s Chocolate Factory. Are You?
It is amazing to have a day dedicated to Sponge Candy. Growing up in West Seneca, we used to have it all the time, but when I moved down South, no one had any idea what it was.
My mom used to send us Sponge Candy, and I would share, and everyone from Myrtle Beach to Panama City Beach, FL, fell in love with it.
This truly unique Western New York treat deserves a day of its own. And National Sponge Candy Day is coming up quickly — Sept. 21.
Thankfully, Platter's Chocolate Factory has the party all planned with their iconic take on sponge candy. Platter's sponge candy is light, airy, crunchy, and coated in the creamiest chocolate you’ve ever tasted — milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or their famous orange chocolate.
The holiday is the perfect reason to visit Platter's Chocolate Factory in the historic Wurlitzer Building, see how the candy's made, enjoy coffee or ice cream, and browse their fall, Halloween, and Buffalo football candy designs. I even saw on Facebook that they have Foam Sponge Candy Hats!
One thing I have learned as I have gotten older is: The more sponge candy I eat, the more workouts I have to do. Thankfully, Platter's is pairing their Sponge Candy Day celebration with a Run for Sponge 5k. This high-energy, family-oriented community event starts at 3 p.m. Sept. 27 with a 1-Mile Fun Walk; the 5K starts at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27. Expect live music, a basket raffle, tons of sponge candy samples, and of course — an appearance from the one and only Sammy Sponge.
All participants will receive sponge candy, while fruit, snacks, and bottled water will be available at the finish line.
It's the perfect set-up. I can eat all the sponge candy I want, knowing that I will run it off and have some fun. When you add sponge candy to anything, it makes it more fun! Learn more and register online here. And don't forget — you can shop 24/7 at platterschocolates.com.
