After nearly twenty years underground, billions of cicadas are expected to emerge in 2025. Will they be invading New York State?

The Magicicada is exclusively found in North America and lives underground for between 13 and 20 years before they start to emeger from the ground. They don't all emerage at the same time, so every year you could see cicadas around the United States.

This year, according to Accuweather, the Brood XIV cicadas are expected to emerge towards the end of April and into early May. Their emergances are based on soil temperature, so the warmer the ground the sooner they could emerge.
