Well, that rumor turned out to be false. According to the fact-checking website Snopes.com, Chili's will not be shutting down all its restaurants.

The restaurant chain is closing or has closed several stores across the Midwest, but it had nothing to do with the overall financial health of the franchise. Those locations were closed after internal reviews and they were considered underperforming against the rest of the locations.

A Chili's spokesperson said the company evaluations their locations every year and sometimes some places need to be closed due to poor performance.

"Being a heritage brand with more than 1,500 restaurants, it's integral to regularly review the performance of our restaurants based on sales figures, shifting trade areas, lease agreements and other factors. At times, we need to make the tough decision to close one, which is not a negative indicator of our overall brand health."
