Attention World, We Live In Western New York, Not Upstate!

So I was talking with my friend that I went to SUNY Brockport who lives in New York City and he asked me how I liked moving back and living in Upstate New York! I was a bit confused by the question!

Growing up in West Seneca, I always considered and was proud that Buffalo and the surrounding area was Western New York! Upstate New York to me is considered the area near Albany.  Central New York was Rochester and Syracuse, and Buffalo was Western New York. Check out a picture I found on Twitter!

Was I wrong to correct him? Would Buffalo be considered "Upstate New York" if you are from the City? I say no and I am a proud Western New Yorker! hahaha
