I had NO idea something like this existed, but after I saw this post on Facebook, I decided to research a bit...

They need to do this everywhere.

As it turns out, while there's nothing like that in Buffalo at the moment, there was a similar program in Albany in 2015.  It waived wave any and all late fees (not the entire ticket) on parking tickets if a non-perishable food item was donated to the Food Bank there.

With the need for food so great in many communities, including here in Western New York, what a great idea!  There's also pretty significant opportunities to get parking tickets in the city.

I don't claim to know the financial impact it would have on the city, assuming a good amount of revenue comes from parking tickets.

But I also know the strain put on the Food Bank of Western New York, and how they're always in need of re-stocking.

Would one hand wash the other?

What do you think? Would you support a program like this?

On a similar note, you may have seen this in your Facebook feed too.  I think THIS is a cool idea too.  What could it hurt?
