Winter Storm Watch Issued For The Weekend In Western New York

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of Western New York starting this Friday and lasting until Monday.

The Winter Storm Watch was issued for Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties where lake effect snow could end up dropping over a half of foot of snow over a 72-hour period.

The Watch also warns of wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour which could make for whiteout conditions and impact travel in those areas.

The potential exists for a significant long duration
lake effect snow event. There is considerable uncertainty in exact band placement and amounts, but multiple periods of heavy snow are possible. Travel could be very difficult to impossible with very poor visibility and deep snow cover on roads. Some major roadways could temporarily close. The hazardous conditions could impact the post-Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

Now is the time to make sure that you have everything you need for winter weather. Double-check your snowblower to make sure it is working, make sure you have a snow brush in your vehicle along with other necessary items.
