It was a busy weather week in New York State as the first two tornadoes of 2025 were confirmed.

A massive storm front moved across the state this week and brought severe weather along with it.

Tornado Confirmed In Western New York

Officials with the National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed an EF-1 tornado did touchdown in Great Valley, New York. That tornado moved around 2.5 miles after it touched down in the area. Wind speeds were recorded as fast as 110 miles per hour.

While tornadoes are not common in New York State, they do happen. 2024 was a record year for confirmed tornadoes in New York State.

32 tornadoes were confirmed in New York State last year. A majority of them happened in the month of July, so late hope that doesn't happen this year.
