New York Women Are Furious At NFL Analyst’s Sexist Comments
A famous NFL analyst is getting slammed on Twitter after his sexist comments during Monday night football.
The Kansas City Chiefs took on the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium, and one of the commentators is facing harsh criticism for his controversial comments.
Troy Aikman is a commentator that is extremely familiar with the league on both sides. Not only is he an NFL analyst, but he used to play in the league for 12 years after being selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the first overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft.
For someone who is so familiar with the NFL and its ins and outs to make a comment like this, it’s easy to see why people are so angry.
During the second quarter, Aikman commented on a questionable roughing the passer call that looked like it could’ve been a normal tackle with a forced fumble.
And while it may have been the latter, Aikman’s choice of words are shameful, to say the least.
“My hope is the competition committee looks at this in the next set of games and takes the dresses off,” Aikman is heard saying in the clip.
The controversial part is “take the dresses off,” which completely derailed the current 2022 social climate.
It’s actually pretty disrespectful, especially when you consider that the NFL appointed their first woman to the NFL Competition Committee this year.
Less than a year ago, the NFL Competition Committee made history when they appointed Katie Blackburn, the executive vice-president of the Cincinnati Bengals. She has not yet commented on the play.
But I will.
With 9 of the 10 members being male on the committee, and Aikman specifically saying “dresses” instead of “dress,” we can infer that he was talking about the committee as a whole, rather than Blackburn alone.
By Aikman saying “take the dresses off,” he is suggesting that those who wear dresses are weak and need to toughen up, which is a bit of a sexist generalization. He may have misspoke, but he could acknowledge that and he hasn't yet.
I realize you may not want to hear my take, so you can stop reading if you want – but I want to share this story. I visited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital over the weekend, and I had the privilege of meeting survivors of childhood cancer. There was one woman by the name of Emily who told me her story. She had arrived at St. Jude with 99% of cancer research cells, had her senior year of high school completely turned around, and ended up receiving chemotherapy for years.
And she beat it.
That day I met her, she was in a dress, celebrating 6 years of being cancer free.
And there are more people like Emily, who are stronger and braver than most people. Definitely stronger than me, and 100% braver than Troy Aikman…even in a dress.
So yeah, the comments are unacceptable and a bit outdated. The world is waiting for your response, Troy. What will you choose to say?
