Another round of severe weather is expected to impact Western New York today. We are looking at a threat of Thunderstorms and a slight risk of a tornado for parts of Western New York.

Severe Weather Expected Today In Western New York

There will be some heavy downpours early this morning with thunderstorms and lightning for much of Western New York. It could make for a slower morning commute than normal.


On top of the risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms, there is a slight risk of a tornado for parts of Western New York.

That risk will be mainly in the Southern Western part of Western New York near the New York/Pennsylvania border, and it comes later this afternoon.

Tornado Confirmed In Western New York

We have already had one confirmed tornado this year in Western New York. The National Weather Service in Buffalo has confirmed that a tornado did touch down in Cattaraugus County on March 31st. The tornado was on the ground for 3 minutes and reached wind speeds of 107 miles per hour, making it an EF-1 tornado.

On average, we see between 8 and 10 tornadoes per year in New York State.
