The first tornado of 2025 in Western New York happened this week, as officials with the National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed a tornado touched down in Western New York.

Tornado Confirmed In Western New York

After an investigation, officials with the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Cattaraugus County.

The tornado touched down around 5:37 pm between the 219 and Farm Market Road and continued moving to the Northeast for around 2.5 miles.


Tornado History In Western New York

While rare, tornadoes do happen in Western New York. This one was the first of 2025. Last year was a busy year for tornadoes in Western New York, with 14 reported tornado touchdowns confirmed by the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

The worst one was an EF-2 tornado that touched down in Eden, New York, on July 10th.
