It seems that there is always a connection to Western New York. That is true with the latest blockbuster movie, "The Odyssey". The $250 million movie was made with a special connection to Western New York

Blockbuster Movie Connected To Western New York

Christoper Nolan's "The Odyssey" dominated the global box office on its opening weekend, making $264.1 million worldwide, including over $124.5 million in North America alone.

This would qualify it as a blockbuster, and of course there is a local tie to the movie. The movie was shot on more than 2 million feet of Kodak 65mm motion picture film, which is made by Kodak in Rochester, New York.

Kodak also produced the film for the movie's release on 35mm, 70mm five-perforation, and IMAX 70mm film.

There are only 24 theaters in the country that use the IMAX 70 mm film, including two here in Western New York: Cinemark Tinseltown Rochester & IMAX and Regal Transit Center & IMAX on Transit Road in Williamsville.

Movies With Ties To Western New York

"The Odyssey" is not the only movie with ties to Western New York. There are several movies that use the area for filming, including several Hallmark Christmas movies.

Some of those movies include. A Quiet Place Part II, The Natural, Bruce Almighty, and Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story.

It seems like Western New York is becoming the Hollywood of the East, and that isn't a bad thing. It is cool to be watching a movie and see places you know in the background.
