Ask anyone who was living in Western New York, and they can tell you exactly where they were on that date. Because on October 12th, 2006 was the start of a massive snowstorm that leveled parts of Western New York.

The October snowstorm surprised many people with the amount of snow that fell in such a short time. In just 24 hours, parts of Western New York saw two feet of snow dumped on them.
Snow in October isn't unheard of here in Western New York, but most times we get the snow later in the month and it is usually just a couple of inches. The sheer amount of snow along with the timing really did catch lots of people off guard in Western New York.
Here is a look at how much snow fell in Western New York on October 12th and 13th back in 2006.
Lancaster - 24 inches
Depew - 24 inches
Alden - 22 inches
Cheektowaga - 22.6 inches
North Buffalo - 20 inches
Downtown Buffalo - 15 inches
South Buffalo -10 inches
Amherst - Between 14 to 22 inches
Clarence - Between 16 to 22 inches
Tonawanda - Between 12 to 18 inches
West Seneca - 14 inches
North Tonawanda - Between 6 to 12 inches
Hamburg - Between 8 to 14 inches
Orchard Park - 8 inches
Lockport - Between 6 to 8 inches
The Buffalo Airport recorded 22.6 inches of snow.
The amount of snow was the most snow Western New York has ever received in a 24-hour period during the month of October.
The good news is that there is no snow in the forecast for October 12th or 13th this year....but you just never know.
