On Monday, the United States Postal Service announced that they were going to raise the price of Forever stamps along with other postage rates.
The increase is expected to officially start on January 22nd, 2023.
The main reason for the price hike is the increase in inflation. Over a billion dollars was added to the Post Office's operational costs due to inflation this year. According to thehill.com the post office is going to raise the rate by 4.2%. Here is what the increased rates will look like starting in January of next year.
Product | Current Price | Planned 2023 Price |
---|---|---|
Letters (1 oz.) | 60 cents | 63 cents |
Letters (metered 1 oz.) | 57 cents | 60 cents |
Domestic Postcards | 44 cents | 48 cents |
International Postcards | $1.40 | $1.45 |
International Letter (1 oz.) | $1.40 | $1.45 |
The post office just raised the price of forever stamps back in July of this year. They raised the cost of the stamp by 2 cents going from 58 cents to 60 cents.
They are also looking at increasing the rates of other services that they offer like Certified Mail, Post Office Box rental fees, money order fees, and the cost to purchase insurance when mailing an item. The United States Post Office didn't announce that that increase would be just yet.
Now that we know the increase is coming, now would be a good time to stock up on forever stamps and any other postage that you might need.
