A massive change is coming to the New York State Constitution after voters in New York headed to the polls on Election Day.

On the ballot yesterday was New York State Proposition #1 and voters in New York State overwhelmingly voted to pass it.

WHAT IS NEW YORK STATE PROPOSITION #1

Proposition #1 was an amendment to the New York State Constitution that bans discrimination based on things including “gender identity” and “pregnancy outcomes".

WHAT CHANGES DOES NEW YORK PROPOSITION #1 MAKE TO THE NEW YORK CONSTITUTION

Prop #1 added language to the New York Consitution that says "someone cannot be denied civil rights because of their national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes or “reproductive healthcare and autonomy.” This is on top of the current language that forbids discrimination based on race, creed, or religion

WHAT WAS THE FINAL VOTE TALLY FOR NEW YORK PROPOSITION #1

Based on the latest polls, New York Prop #1 passed with 62% of voters in New York voting for it. Over 4 million New Yorkers voted in favor of New York Proposition #1.
