The weather this week across New York State will flip-flop back and forth due to the Polar Vortex.

The Polar Vortex is expected to shift over the next couple of days and that could end up with some very cold weather heading our way.


   

WHAT IS THE POLAR VORTEX?

The Polar Vortex is a massive area of low pressure and cold air that surrounds both of the Earth’s poles. It always exists near the Earth's poles but weakens in summer and strengthens in winter over the rest of the Earth. 

HOW DOES THE POLAR VORTEX IMPACT WEATHER IN NEW YORK?

When the cold air shifts down and the Polar Vortex moves south of the North Pole it can bring some very cold temperatures and snowy conditions to New York.
