Above Average October Snow Expected In Western New York
We are just a couple of weeks away from the start of October, and one of the earliest weather models is showing signs that plenty of snow is coming our way here in the 716.
The good news is that this is only one model; the bad news is that the lake water has been very warm, and that isn't expected to change anytime soon.
Warm water mixed with cool air creates the protentional of massive lake effect snow for the region.

We have had several October snowstorms here in Western New York, so you know things can get really bad, really fast.
The current lake temperatures are right around the same temperatures we had back in 2006 when the Surprise October snowstorm hit the 716. Over 2 feet of snow fell in just two days across Western New York.
Let's hope that doesn't happen this year, and if you have kids, you might want to think about their Halloween costume fitting over a snowsuit or jacket.
