Your drive around Western New York this weekend could be a little bit different as two major road construction projects will shutdown the 190 and the Grand Island Bridges.

According to a Facebook post from the New York State Authority, 190 will be closed in both directions between the Niagara Street and Fort Erie/Porter Ave/Peace Bridge exit from Saturday night at 9 p.m. until Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Workers will be installing the new pedestrian bridge over the 190.

Northbound traffic will be diverted at Virginia Street (Exit 8) while Southbound traffic will be diverted at Exit 9.

 

The other major road work project will impact the traffic along the South Grand Island Bridges. Crews will be performing required inspections of the bridges.

The northbound span will be closed from 9 pm Friday through 9 am on Saturday. Traffic heading north will be diverted to one lane on the southbound bridge. The southbound span will be closed from 9 pm Saturday through 9 am Sunday. Traffic heading south will be diverted to one lane on the northbound bridge.

Another major road construction project that could slow you down is along I-86. Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-86 will be closed between Exit 8 to Exit 9.

All that roadwork will be conducted overnight from 10 pm until 6 am. That project is expected to be completed by October 12th.
